Emil Matei, M.D., D.O., FACS is a board-certified general surgeon with fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. Dr. Matei received his M.D. degree from Carol Davila University in Romania and his D.O. degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a general surgery residency in France at Hospitals of the University of Picardy and in the US at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens. In addition, he completed a fellowship in Bariatrics and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery from the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Florida.
Dr. Matei is the Vice Chief, Department of Surgery, Memorial Regional Hospital.
Dr. Matei is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, has published several articles and was a featured presenter at surgical society meetings.
Dr. Matei specializes in minimally invasive and obesity surgery (also called bariatric surgery), which includes the Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band, Lap-Band, Realize Band, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy. He also performs revisional weight loss surgery including the ROSE and Stomaphyx procedures.
